Start with a useful project brief
You do not need a formal requirements document. A short, honest explanation is enough to begin.
Include what you know
- What are you trying to build, repair, replace, or automate?
- Who will use it?
- What happens today?
- What is slow, expensive, risky, or frustrating?
- Which systems, accounts, providers, or records are involved?
- Is there a deadline or operational dependency?
- Which languages and locations are involved?
- Who approves scope, content, access, and acceptance?
- What result would make the project clearly successful?
Do not send secrets in the first message
Do not email passwords, API keys, private records, regulated data, production exports, or confidential credentials. Secure access can be arranged after the engagement is qualified.
What happens next
1. I review the problem and identify missing information. 2. We determine whether the project is a credible fit. 3. I outline discovery, technical direction, major risks, and next decisions. 4. Scope, price, timing, ownership, deliverables, and support are documented.
